Get your caffeine kick at one of these beautiful coffee shops in downtown Montreal!
Much like the many restaurants in Montreal, coffee shops seem to be at every street corner. What I like most about coffee shops in Montreal is that they’re not just cafés. They bring community together, inviting both locals and tourists to gather, sip, and experience the unique character of each neighbourhood.
I’ve always found myself in the Montreal downtown neighbourhood a lot, whether for school, for work, or just to catch up with good friends. And in the midst of the city buzz, I’ve discovered lots of great spots for a good cup of coffee.
So join me as I share some of my favourite downtown coffee shops.
1. Bar Caffettiera
2055 Stanley Street
Montreal, Quebec
H3A 1R7
If you can’t travel to Italy, why not head to Bar Caffettiera? Indulge in a good cup of cappuccino made with beans roasted in Rome. Pair it with their irresistible cornettos, bombolonis, or freshly baked focaccia, and you’ve got the authentic taste of Italy in your cup and plate!
2. Café Castel
1015 Sherbrooke Street West
Montreal, Quebec
H3A 1G5
Café Castel is a quaint, airy spot that offers a diverse selection of gourmet coffees, from their city renowned house blend to their flavoured café au lait. Plus, don’t miss their must-try croissant sandwiches for a delightful treat!
3. Café Humble Lion
904 Sherbrooke Street West
Montreal, Quebec
H3A 1G3
Calling all McGill students! Café Humble Lion, just right across from Roddick Gates, is a convenient haven for your caffeine fix. Amongst my favourites are their maple latte, black Americano, blueberry and chocolate scone, and mini raspberry doughnut!
4. Leaves House Café
2051 De la Montagne Street
Montreal, Quebec
H3G 1Z8
Leaves House Café is 100% animal-free, and not only serves delicious coffee, but also acts as the ultimate hub for plant-based products and services. Be sure to try their unique lavender latte, an unexpected and delicious twist, and proof that lavenders are not just for bouquets! Plus, they now have a second location in the Place Montreal Trust Mall!
5. MELK Bar à Café
1206 Stanley Street
Montreal, Quebec
H3B 2S7
MELK Bar à Café derives its unique name from the Dutch word for “milk.” Their urban chic design blends perfectly with their beautiful, simple ceramic tableware, and their matcha flavoured latte is a MELK classic. Oh, and don’t forget to visit their super cute gift shop too!
6. Parma Café
1202 Bishop Street
Montreal, Quebec
H3G 2E3
Parma Café brings the flavours of Parma, Italy, to downtown Montreal with a focus on delicious coffee. My go-to order is a mocha coffee paired with a fresh chocolate hornet. But if you’re more of a savoury gal, the café also serves paninis, meatballs, calzones, and pizza!
7. Nous Sommes Café
333 De la Gauchetière Street West
Montreal, Quebec
H2Z 0A8
Step into Nous Sommes Café, the epitome of aesthetic charm, where every drink is a visual masterpiece. From classic Italian delights like cappuccino and espresso, to Asian-infused treasures like matcha and dalgona, every sip of coffee is a sip of self-love.
8. Café Olimpico
1333 Robert-Bourassa Boulevard
Montreal, Quebec
H3A 2A4
Café Olimpico, a must-try for espresso aficionados, is my go-to for a powerful caffeine kick. Pair their staple affogato with their delectable cannolis or tiramisu for the perfect treat. Plus, they promote sustainability with the sale of reusable mugs!
9. Pikolo Espresso Bar
1635 Clark Street
Montreal, Quebec
H2X 2R4
True to its name, Pikolo Espresso Bar is the perfect spot for delicious espresso-based coffees and gourmet pastries. The service is always very friendly, and the place is ideal to work or simply to pause for a little while. Oh, and don’t miss out on their must-try, super moist, chocolate zucchini cake!
10. Tommy Café
1241 McGill College Avenue
Montreal, Quebec
H3B 1M6
Tommy Café instantly became one of my favourite spots in the city after I had my first bite of their famous cronut. Plus, if you’re hungry for a little more than just a cup of coffee and a good pastry, they now have some amazing brunch options too!
Coffee brings joy and community. Each aromatic cup tells a story, forming connections between strangers and friends alike. So the next time you’re in the downtown Montreal area, take a sip, share a moment, and immerse yourself in the unique charm each coffee spot has to offer.
