Summer’s soon coming to an end, and it’s time to switch gears from lazy beach days to hitting the books, the office desk, or wherever else is calling your name.
But before you dive into the back-to-school frenzy, check out all my favourite eco-friendly school supplies that won’t kill the planet… or your wallet!
1. AusPen Whiteboard Markers
Teachers, students, and even bosses out there: raise your hand if you hate it when your markers run dry and you have to throw them away! Turns out there’s a solution for that. AusPen offers refillable, dry erase whiteboard markers in a whole range of colours. Just add some ink when it runs out, and you’re all set. No more landfill, just penfill!
2. Decomposition Book
Why settle for plain old composition books when you can upgrade to de-composition books instead? These notebooks are made from chlorine-free, recycled paper and are printed using soy ink, so they’re fully recyclable once you’ve filled them up. Plus, they come in a variety of super cute designs, and in both lined and dotted pages!
3. Fluf Lunch Bag
You’re gonna need to pack a lunch for school, and these ones are reusable, made from organic cotton, washable, and so stylish. With a range of fun, eye-catching designs, Fluf Bags are the perfect size for your lunchtime essentials – not too big, not too small. And it doesn’t stop at lunch bags: they also offer snack bags, snack mats, zip pouches, and more!
4. Honeysticks Crayons
Did you know that most crayons are made from paraffin wax, which comes from petroleum? Gross, right?! Luckily, Honeysticks provides a more eco-friendly option with their beeswax crayons, offering a much safer and more sustainable alternative. So kids can colour their world while also making a positive impact on the environment.
5. MUJI Refillable Pens
MUJI gel ink pens are my favourite note taking pens for their smooth writing and consistent ink flow. They’re available in 0.5mm and 0.38mm tips in various colours, and are perfect for note-taking, doodling, or underlining key points in your textbooks. But what makes these pens a sustainable choice? You can easily buy pen refills!
6. MUJI Staple-Free Stapler
Imagine all the waste from tossed-out staples. Well, this staple-free stapler is here to change that. Made from tough, impact-resistant polycarbonate, this lightweight stapler never needs refilling. It works by punching and folding the pages together, so you can keep your papers secure and cut down on waste in the process. No staple wires? No problem!
7. Owala Water Bottle
You’ve got to stay hydrated at school, so a reusable water bottle is a must! Owala bottles are made from durable, BPA-free materials and support recycling initiatives to keep plastic out of oceans and landfills. With their convenient free-sip spout and wide mouth for easy cleaning, staying hydrated is effortless, and the cute designs will make you want one in every colour!
8. Pela Phone Case
While phone cases aren’t the first thing that comes to mind when we think of school supplies, our phones are definitely something we bring to school or work every day. Pela phone cases are made with plant-based materials and are fully biodegradable. When you’re done with it (and let’s be honest, we all switch up our cases more often than we need to), simply toss it into your compost pile.
9. Sprout World Plantable Pencils
Introducing the world’s only, plantable pencil! Yup, can you believe it? These carbon-neutral pencils minimize waste by transforming into plants like flowers or herbs once used up. You can even personalize yours with your favourite seed and inspirational quote, or choose from special edition packs for unique gifts and stationery!
10. Stasher Bags
You’ll never miss those plastic Ziploc bags ever again! Stasher creates airtight, reusable silicone bags that are amazing for storing anything from cut-up apples to nuts, to cookies. These bags are dishwasher-safe, BPA-free, and plastic-free. Plus, they come in all sorts of cute colours like baby pink and sky blue, as well as fun patterns like polka dots and stripes.
