Vancouver is known for its fresh, top-quality fish, and as a city by the sea, it’s no surprise that some of the best sushi can be found here. But with so many choices, how do you know where to go?
Here are 7 of my favourite sushi spots in Vancouver that you won’t want to miss.
Hello Nori
My favourites: Bluefin tuna hand roll; Hokkaido scallop hand roll
If you’re all about temaki, Hello Nori is a must-visit. The sleek decor, with warm wood and a mix of modern and traditional Japanese elements, sets the stage for the best hand roll experience. Each roll is made fresh in front of you, so it’s always at its best (the rice is never cold!). Be sure to try the bluefin tuna hand roll—it melts in your mouth like butter!

Ninkazu
My favourites: Salmon nigiri; sake
For those days when you want all the sushi, Ninkazu‘s all-you-can-eat menu is a family favourite—growing up, we always went with my cousins every time we were in town. I love the beautiful wallpapers of Japan’s famous landmarks, and the huge menu packed with sashimis, sushis, battered and deep-fried items, soups, and desserts. Oh, and don’t skip the warm sake (yes, warm). So smooth, and so good!

Sushi Dragon
My favourites: Dragon roll; salmon roll
Sushi Dragon is a go-to spot for big portions at a great price . It’s perfect for party trays when you’ve got a large group, or bento boxes when you’re craving rice, teriyaki, and sushi all in one (also, can you believe the bento box is under $15?!). I found the service to be quite fast, and everything tasted fresh with good quality ingredients. The Dragon roll is a must, but honestly, you can’t go wrong with anything here.

Sushi Mura
My favourites: Sashimi platter; shrimp tempura roll
Sushi Mura is probably my favourite sushi spot in Vancouver (shoutout to my friend Mandy for the recommendation!). If you’re a sashimi girl like me, their sashimi platter is just… wow! The pieces melt in your mouth, and the portions are thiccc (seriously, look at that piece of salmon!). Everything is fresh, delicious, and 10/10 worth coming back for. Bonus points for the fun music playlist (I was lowkey karaoking half the time) and the free mouthwash in the restroom (perfect if you’ve got plans after!).

TAKENAKA Uni Bar
My favourites: Salmon sashimi, tuna onigiri; uni matcha soba
When you stand in front of TAKENAKA, you’ll forget you’re in Vancouver, because it seriously feels like you’re in Japan. And if you’re a “a little bit of everything” type of person like I am, this spot is perfect. Their lunch tray is amazing, featuring your choice of onigiri, along with a bunch of small dishes like sashimi, uni matcha soba (I’m obsessed with the uni!), miso soup, and more. Plus, I can’t get enough of their b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l tableware (someone please tell me where do I get pretty plates like these!).

Umi Japanese Eatery and Udon Bar
My favourites: California roll; shrimp tempura; yam tempura
Umi is my new go-to spot whenever I’m craving sushi after a shopping spree at the CF Richmond Mall. Their bento boxes are my favourite, and they’re super affordable too (yes, it’s ‘food court food,’ but it’s so good you’ll forget you’re even in a food court!). You can’t go wrong with their California roll (also yes, California rolls originated in Vancouver!) and tempura—crispy on the outside, soft and delicious on the inside. And don’t even get me started on their homemade teriyaki sauce… I could swim in it!

88 Supermarket
My favourites: California roll; salmon sashimi
Yes, it’s a supermarket, but the sushi at Vancouver supermarkets like 88 Supermarket and T&T Supermarket is actually so, so good. It’s fresh, affordable, and perfect when you’re on the go or just want something quick. Grab a tray (or two, or three, or four) along with some extra snacks or drinks, and you’re all set for your next picnic or Netflix binge.

Happy sushi hunting!
