Whether it’s a fun little trip, an adventurous expedition, or your honeymoon, traveling with your significant other can be eye-opening. It doesn’t always turn out as you’d hope. Actually, traveling with anyone can be unpredictable. We can’t plan for everything. Still, here are a few things you can do to prepare for your first trip together.
1. Know each other’s travel styles
It’s important to find out how the person you’re traveling with prefers to spend their vacation. They might enjoy exploring and sightseeing. Maybe they prefer relaxing by the pool and strolling around the city. Others may like going on thrill-seeking adventures or attending love drunk parties.
2. Know how they handle stress
Understand how they act under stress. Vacations aren’t always smooth sailing. Flights can get delayed or canceled, directions get confusing and possessions sometimes get lost (or even stolen).
3. Know how they share space
Sharing a bathroom, if you don’t already, can be annoying. Knowing how to share your space can make or break your trip. If you both prefer morning showers, you’ll need to adjust your morning routine so you don’t miss your reservation.
4. Know how they spend their money
Are they cautious spenders who stick to a daily budget? Or are they “eating instant ramen everyday because they spent the whole trip budget on the first day” spenders?
5. Know how to handle their hangry tantrums
Waiting times for popular restaurants can be extremely long. You could be standing in line for over an hour and a hangry partner is not always easy to be with.
6. Know how messy (or how clean) they keep their room when travelling
Some prefer to settle in, hang up all their clothing, and iron them. Maybe they like keeping everything locked in their suitcase during the day. Or maybe they prefer to make themselves at home and have all their possessions spread out around the room.
7. Know their preferred mode of transportation
Do they think a 20 or 30-minute walk is better than using up another bus pass? You’ll want to prepare yourself for the 30k steps you’re going to be doing. Maybe you’d rather spend $50 on a ride service, or take the the subway with the local rats.
There you have it! Some discussion topics you can tackle before you should have before you head out on your next adventure.
Safe travels!
